Turmeric is one of the most effective nutritional supplements in existence.
It has the potential to positively impact the body and brain. Many of the health benefits of turmeric are due to its main active ingredient, Curcumin.
Curcumin, a natural substance found in the spice turmeric and other plants, has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Here are 5 benefits of Turmeric according to Ayurveda:
- Reduces Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is referred to as Amavata in Ayurveda. Amavata is a disease caused by the vitiation of Vata dosha and the accumulation of Ama, in the joints. Amavata results from a weak digestive fire. This leads to the accumulation of Ama (toxic remains in the body due to improper digestion). This Ama gets localised in the body tissues or joints, it can lead to production of pain, stiffness, swelling, etc. in the related joints. Turmeric’s hot potency is useful for reducing Ama. It also has a balancing effect on Vata, which relieves the symptoms of Rheumatoid arthritis such as pain and swelling in the joints.
- Regulates Blood Sugar Level.
Diabetes (Madhumeha) is caused by an aggravation of Vata and impaired digestion. Improper digestion leads to the accumulation of Ama in the pancreatic cells, which in turn impairs the function of insulin.
Turmeric helps remove Ama and controls aggravated Vata due to its Deepan (appetizer) and Pachan (digestive) properties. It thus helps in the regulation of high blood sugar levels.
-
Reduces High Cholesterol.
High cholesterol is caused by a lack of Pachak Agni (digestive fire in Ayurvedic medicine). Impaired digestion at the tissue level produces excess waste products, which accumulates in the body as Ama. A build-up of bad cholesterol is caused by this.
Turmeric helps to remove the blockage from the blood vessels by eliminating toxins. It is also effective in reducing high cholesterol.
Because Turmeric is difficult to digest, a very small percentage of the normal dosage is absorbed by the body. EGA Haridra Sattvam is a super-fine nano-sized Turmeric extract, made from organically grown and hand-processed Turmeric (without the use of machinery that generates heat).
The process of creating this essence is complex and time-consuming. It takes 100 kg of turmeric root to produce 1 kg of essence. The Turmeric Root is purified and cleaned with water many times over to create a pure extract of turmeric. No chemicals are applied to the roots during the extraction of their active ingredients. Rather, the entire spectrum of active ingredients is in the final powder.
- Relieves Osteoarthritis.
- Relieves Stomach Ulcers.
Curcumin in Turmeric helps ease stomach ulcers associated with hyperacidity. Ayurveda says that this is due to an aggravated Pitta. Drinking Turmeric milk helps to diminish the acid level in the stomach, and also relieves Pitta. It also speeds the healing of ulcers. This is because of its Ropan (healing) properties.
